
Jade Chen, age 16, started her piano lesson at age five with Elena Makarova, and currently studies with Rufus Choi. Jade was recently awarded the David Weiss Scholarship of the Young Musicians Foundation. As the First Prize winner of the 2015 Robert Turner Piano Concerto Competition, Jade gave her orchestral debut performance with the Los Angeles Doctors Symphony Orchestra.
She was also the First Prize winner of the Kathryn Gawartin Chopin Competition, First Prize winner of the 2014 CAPMT State Honors Auditions and First Prize winner of the 2011 CAPMT State Concerto Competition. As a Gold Medal winner of 2012 AADGT International Young Musicians Competition, and a First Prize winner of 2008 American Fine Arts Festival Competition, Jade gave two performances at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
Other prizes Jade has received include: First Prize of the Glendale Piano Competition, First Prize of the MTAC Scholarship Competition, First Prize of the Cypress College Piano Competition, two times First Prize of the UDACS Young Musician Piano Competition, three times First Prize of the Southwestern Youth Music Festival Piano Competitions, Second Prize of the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition. Jade was also a prize winner of the Los Angeles Liszt International Competition and the International Russian Music Piano Competition.
Jade attends Diamond Bar High School, a National Grammy Signature School, where she has worked with the Symphony Orchestra, under Director Mr. Steven Acciani and Dr. Marie Sato, as well as the Drama Department in productions of musicals such as Into the Woods and Les Misérables. In addition, she performs with various chamber groups within the school’s Advanced Music Program. She frequently works to benefit her community, playing regularly at senior centers.
