Max Hammond, 16, has studied piano since 2014 with Anders Martinson, following earlier studies with Sylvia Chauls and Wayne Behlendorf. He attends Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences, where he is a member of EMMI, the Elizabeth Mandell Music Institute. Max has been in the winners circle of many piano competitions, his top finishes including 1st place awards in the State Finals of the CAPMT Honors Competition, the Glendale Piano Competition, the Los Angeles Young Pianist Competition, the CAPMT District III Sonata Competition (twice), the Turner Concerto Competition and the SYMF Young Pianist Competition, as well as 3rd place in his category of the Los Angeles Young Musicians International Competition.  Max has performed as concerto soloist with the Los Angeles Doctors Symphony Orchestra and with the Southwestern Youth Music Festival Orchestra, and, last Spring, performed the complete Rachmaninov Concerto #2 in concert, as the youngest competitor to reach the finals of the Young Artists Competition of the Peninsula Symphony.  Max is the 2016 Mary Lynn Moyer Scholarship recipient of the Westside Committee of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
