
Yoko Nagafuchi is a freshman at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Originally from Tokyo, Japan, she moved to Irvine, California in 2011, where she graduated from Woodbridge High School. As a pianist, she studied with Dr. Lorna Griffitt. She has participated in various competitions, summer festivals, and other activities. Some of her achievements include her participation in Aspen Music Festival and School, International Institute for Young Musicians, and masterclasses with Menahem Pressler, Jura Margulis, and Zhang Zuo. She has also won prizes at competitions such as Young Pianist’s Beethoven Competition, MTNA California, Classics Alive, and Southern California Junior Bach Festiva, and CAPMT VIII Concerto Competition; she has performed with Orange County Symphony. For four years, she was a participant of Junior Chamber Music through which she performed at Weill Recital Hall with her chamber music group. She also organized and performed in concerts through JCM Student Service Alliance at senior livings. At Michigan, she is seeking a dual-degree, majoring in piano performance in the School of Music, Theatre & Dance, studying with Prof. Logan Skelton, and exploring various fields of study in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. Her other interests lie in pre-medicine and international studies.
