Taiwanese pianist Yun Janice Lu, born in 1996, is a recipient of numerous awards and prizes. She won the second prize in the senior division of the 2015 Music Teachers National Association competition, the first prize at the Lee University International Piano Festival and the YAMAHA Piano Competition in Taiwan. She was also the winner of the PianoTexas Young Artists Concerto Competition in 2015, which resulted in a performance with the Fort Worth Symphony under the baton of Lio Kuokman. The performance was lauded by critics, who stated that “she captured Liszt’s style, almost impossible to exaggerate, and took full advantage of the fireworks. She has a forceful attack when needed and an impressive legato."
Yun began private lessons at the age of five and gave her first formal concert at age ten. Four years later, she successfully made her orchestral debut with the Taiwan Youth Orchestra. Since then, she has appeared in recitals as soloist in venues such as Kaohsiung City Music Hall and Jhihde Hall, and throughout Taiwan, Europe, and the United States.
She has participated in renowned music festivals, including the Walnut Hill Music Festival, Academie Internationale d'Ete de Nice, and as a fellowship recipient of the PianoTexas Festival, was awarded a full scholarship to Pianofest in Hamptons, New York, where she performed in the concert series. Yun also has performed for world-renowned artists including Arie Vardi, Dang Thai Son, Piotr Paleczny, and Eugen Indijic.
As an avid chamber musician, she consistently appears in concert series at numerous chamber music festivals including the Formosa Chamber Music Festival and Music@Menlo Chamber Music Festival, where she has studied with the Esther Strings Quartet, Clive Greensmith, a member of the Tokyo Strings Quartet, Gilbert Kallish, Gloria Chien, Erin Keefe, Paul Neubauer, and Wu Han.
Currently, she is studying under the tutelage of Ning An, the third prize winner of the 1999 Queen Elizabeth International Piano Competition, at California State University Fullerton School of Music.
